Poetry for Children and Education
Music is innate, as much a part of us as the rhythm of our heart beat on beat on beat. Words have music, they are ululated by our very breath as they are rippled over our vocal chords. Bring out the music in the words and you have poetry! Add visual imagery and you have a poem the mind can climb into and explore!
What others have said about my readings and workshops:
The quotes, below, are excerpts from letters sent to me by primary school teachers:
“poems touched familiar chords with the children, who very quickly became involved in the performances .... “ Primary School Teacher
“success in grabbing the children’s attention and keeping the students enthralled for over an hour with ... poetry was extraordinary considering the nature of the students. Most students in the groups have disadvantaged backgrounds, with many suffering learning, behavioural (including ADD), and emotional problems. These children usually have little tolerance or interest in either poetry or performing. However, from their reaction ... it is clear that with the right resources children can be hooked into poetry.” Teacher, Bald Hills State Primary

Poster Poem/MiniBook Project - COLLABORATIONS
Working with many very different and very talented illustrators from all over the world has been VERY exciting, challenging and, I know, has taught me more about my own art and helped us, as a team, discover new facets to our creative abilities!
I am working on numerous books and other projects with numbers of my illustrator friends. Glimpses of these can be found on my Collaborations page and my Project Links page.
Many others have collaborated with me on my Poster Poem/MiniBook] Project on www.sharing-books.com. Responses from teachers and others round the globe since the project's inception late December 2008 have been wonderful!
The websites of all Collaborators are listed in the file below.
The illustration for "Itinerant Worker" was done by Ron Chironna [USA]. It is part of the Poster Poem Project.
